PORTLAND, Ore. -- Despite being down a player due to a red card, the Portland Pilots put together a stellar 3-1 win over the Saint Mary's Gaels on Saturday at Merlo Field. The win improved Portland's record to 6-2-3 overall and 1-0-0 in WCC play.
Violet Rademacher, Cally Togiai and Brooke Miller all scored for Portland. It was the first goal of the year for Rademacher and the fifth for both Miller and Togiai. Bre Norris was a fortress between the sticks, racking up a career-high 10 saves on the night.
How it Happened
Portland took a 1-0 lead when Violet Rademacher recorded her first goal of the season in the 26th minute. The Rademacher goal came after a ball played in the box bounced around before Katana Norman launched a shot that fell to Rademacher's feet. Rademacher punched it in for the goal.
The red card for Portland came in the 32nd minute, with Hailey Still drawing the card for Portland. The Pilots played with 10 the rest of the way.
Saint Mary's evened the match with a penalty kick from Tessa Salvestrin in the 55th minute. Not long after, Portland went ahead 2-1 on Cally Togiai's 60th-minute goal, her fifth of the season. Aliyah Dockter played a perfect ball through to Togiai, who knocked it in for the score.
The Pilots went up 3-1 with a 70th-minute goal from Brooke Miller, her fifth goal of the season. Jillian McBride and Dockter assisted the goal, with McBride chasing the ball down before sending a low cross to Miller, who put it in to make it 3-1.
