PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots fell 3-2 at home to CSU Bakersfield Thursday at Merlo Field. Portland fell to 2-2-0 overall following the defeat.
Jose Olmos and Alex Waggoner each scored their first goals of the season in the loss. It was also the first goal of Waggoner's Pilot career.
How it Happened
Portland broke the scoreless tie when Jose Olmos notched his first goal of the season in the 11th minute, assisted by Sebastian Nava. Nava curled in the corner kick and Olmos headed it in with precision for the goal.
The Pilots added another score on a goal from Alex Waggoner -- his first goal of the season -- in the 33rd minute, assisted by Nick Fernandez and Wylie Trujillo. Waggoner put in a header of his to open his account with the Pilots and give them a 2-0 lead.
CSU Bakersfield closed the gap to 2-1 on Rashaad Ogun's 69th-minute goal, assisted by Filip Arras and Bilal Mihoubi. The Roadrunners fired back to knot things up at 2-2 with a 72nd-minute goal from Connor Mautino, assisted by Arras, before taking the lead 3-2 on Mautino's goal in the 86th minute, assisted by Arras and Ogun. The goal finished off the 3-2 match.
