SEATTLE, Wash. – Women's track star Laura Pellicoro had a historic performance to highlight Portland's effort Friday at the UW Preview hosted at Dempsey Indoor. Pellicoro ran a 1,000-meter time of 2:37.04 which goes down as the fastest 1K time ever run by a collegiate women's runner. It is another stunning PR and broke her own previous school record (2:42.51) by more than five seconds. The record will not count as the official NCAA record since Dempsey Indoor is considered an oversized track by NCAA Indoor standards.
Other highlights for the women included Aria Cain posting the No. 6 time in school history in the 60m (7.91) and No. 5 time in the 200K (25.80). Teresa Perez improved to No. 5 in the 800m (2:10.75), while Maebh Richardson posted the No. 10 time in the 3,000m (9:22.77).
It was also a successful day for the Pilot men's distance runners as Eliason Kabasenche posted the No. 3 time in program history in the 1,000m (2:28.42). Jonas Gertsen led a strong contingent in the 3,000m and just missed breaking into the Top 10 with a time of 7:58.74 and Bradley Peloquin was close behind (7:59.22).
At Saturday's Mile City event at Dempsey Indoor, Mark Milner and Estanis Ruiz both set personal records with sub-4-minute runs, making program history. Mark Milner recorded the second-fastest time at 3:56.90, while Estanis Ruiz improved his record with 3:59.99, placing fifth all-time.
