LONG BEACH, Calif. – Portland women's tennis opened the spring season Friday at the Beach Winter Invite hosted by Long Beach State at the Rhodes Tennis Center. The Pilots picked up four singles victories against CSUN in the mock dual format.
Alaia Rubio Perez picked up win via retirement against Victoria Santibanez while leading 2-1 in the third set. Freshman Maria Galatescu made her Pilot debut with a three-set win against Nicole West. Fellow freshman Lexie Flores picked up a retirement win the third set against Madison Shepperson, while senior Aleksandra Dimitrijevic cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win against Sofia Dermenjyan.
Portland faced Miami (OH) in doubles and dropped all four matches in close contests.
The Pilots continue action Saturday with morning doubles against host Long Beach State and singles against Miami (OH). The tournament concludes Sunday with doubles against CSUN and singles vs. The Beach.
