PULLMAN, Wash. – Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu were the top draw champions this weekend at the Cougar Classic, held Friday through Sunday at the WSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Pilot duo went a combined 2-1 in doubles and 5-1 in singles with wins against teams from Idaho and Gonzaga en route to A Draw title.

The tournament was played in a mini dual format with two players from a school paired together to compete in a doubles match and two singles matches against another two-person team. The team that won two of the three points advanced in the bracket. The tournament featured players from host Washington State, along with Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Idaho, Lewis-Clark State and Montana.

Other Portland highlights included true freshman Kennedy Harris going 3-0 in singles during her debut tournament in the B Draw and the Pilots posting a collective record of 15-7 in singles matches.

Portland returns to the courts next weekend at the Duck Invitational in Eugene, Ore. on Oct. 3-5.
