Box Score PULLMAN, Wash. – Five freshmen made their collegiate debuts for the University of Portland last weekend as the Pilots took part in the WSU Cougar Classic hosted by Washington State at the WSU Outdoor Courts. The Pilots competed against players from the host Cougars, Montana and Idaho.

Freshmen Abi Anderson, Gaja Djurickovic, Karina Kiss, Naomi To and Emily Velasco all debuted for the Pilots.

Velasco went 3-0 in singles over the weekend as she picked up straight set wins against Ava-Monet Sycamore (WSU), Naomi Schraeder (UI) and Remi Dechans (UM). Djurickovic defeated Montana players Emma Marais and Rebecka Jerlardtz in straight sets, while Kiss earned a comeback singles win against WSU's Clara Schoen 6-7, 7-5, 6-3.

Anderson teamed up with Nadine Arbaizar Martinez for a doubles win over Montana's Paige Bott and Kamila Slovakova, 6-4. Arbaizar Martinez also had a singles victory against Idaho's Chenyue Xu, 7-6, 7-4.

Junior Maria Galatescu also collected a pair of singles victories with a three-set comeback against Chisato Kanemaki of WSU 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 and a 7-5, 6-2 win against Montana's Monika Fizova.

Junior Lexi Flores defeated Paige Bott of Montana 6-3, 6-4 and then partnered with Djurickovic in doubles for a 6-3 win against Allison Crane and Fizova (UM) by a 6-3 margin.
