SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots lost 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 13-15) to the Santa Clara Broncos Saturday on the road at Leavey Center. The loss dropped Portland's record to 10-12 overall and 5-6 in WCC play.
The Pilots were led by a double-double from Maui Robins, who registered 15 kills and 12 digs on the day. Elin Larsson also added 14 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Jeryn Hildenbrand chipped in with career-high 13 digs to go with four blocks from Taina Kaauwai.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Pilots found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-15.Â
SET 2 | Portland then dropped set two 25-20 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Pilots lost the second set in spite of a solid performance on the attacking end. Portland put together a .314 attack percentage with 14 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Portland avoided a sweep with a win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. The Pilots grabbed control of the set early when the score was 3-2 and never trailed to win 25-20. Portland ended on a strong note, opening up its biggest five-point lead, to finish off the set. Portland's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Santa Clara attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Portland then kept the comeback train rolling, winning the fourth set 27-25 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Pilots persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a set that featured five lead changes and was tied 12 times. Neither team was able to grab a lead larger than three points along the way. Portland got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Santa Clara attacks in the stanza and capitalized on 11 Santa Clara attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 5 | Portland lost the first two sets, but came back to tie it at two sets apiece before falling 15-13 in the fifth set. The Pilots dropped set five in spite of a strong performance on the attacking side. Portland put together a .533 attack percentage with nine kills in the set loss.
