PORTLAND, Ore. – No. 8 Portland Pilots men's soccer earned a 2-0 victory against the Seattle U Redhawks in their final home match of the regular season, going a perfect 11-0 at Merlo Field. Portland improves to 12-1-3 overall and 5-1-2 in WCC play.
David Ajagbe and Micaah Garnette were the goalscorers for Portland, the 10
th for Ajagbe and Garnette's 1
st. Diego Rosas assisted both goals, reaching 14 assists on the year to match the program record set in 1991 by Joe Leonetti.
How it Happened
The Pilots opened the scoring in the 29
th minute. Anton Hjalmarsson played it downfield to Diego Rosas, who found David Ajagbe across the box. Ajagbe rose up to send in the goal, his 10
th of the season.
Portland finished off the scoring in the second half. Rosas once again created the action, finding a cutting Micaah Garnette for his first goal of the season. Garnette sent it into the net in the 56
th minute to make it 2-0 Portland, giving them the win.
Game Notes
- Ajagbe's goal was his 10th of the season. It's the most by a Pilot in their first season with Portland since Benji Michel in 2016.
- Garnette's goal was his first of the season.
- With two assists, Rosas tied the program record for assists in a season at 14, set in 1991 by Joe Leonetti.
- Hjalmarsson's assist was his third of the year.
- Highfield's assist was his fifth of the year, the second most of any Pilot this year.
- Portland has crossed the 50-assist threshold for the third time in four seasons. They are two assists away from matching a program record.
- The Pilots finished the regular season 11-0-0 at home, their second season undefeated at home in the regular season in three seasons. Portland's 11 home wins mark just the third time in program history they've posted 11 wins at home.
- Portland is the only team in the country sitting at a perfect 11-0-0 at home this year.
