EUGENE, Ore. – Alaia Rubio Perez and Nadine Arbaizer Martinez earned singles wins but the Portland women's tennis team fell 4-2 to Oregon Saturday at the Student Tennis Center. The Pilots fall to 0-2, while the Ducks improve to 5-0.
Portland dropped a competitive doubles point after the team's No. 1 tandem of Sally Pethybridge and Rubio Perez earned a 6-2 win. The Ducks answered with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to clinch the point.
Rubio Perez cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win against Karin Young at No. 2 singles and Arbaizer Martinez posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Juliet Santitto at No. 6 singles to put the Pilots on the board. Aleksandra Dimitrijevic was up 4-3 in the second set after dropping the first set to Candela Aparisi at No. 4 singles when the match was clinched.
Oregon picked up straight set wins at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5 to claim the team victory.
The Pilots will remain in Eugene and take on No. 23 Texas Tech in a neutral site match tomorrow at approximately 2:30 p.m.
