RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- The Portland Pilots fell in their season opener against the California Baptist Lancers, losing 1-0.
Junior Carter Gaston (0-1) got the ball to start for Portland (0-1) and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on five hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Ryan Rembisz threw two shutout innings for the Pilots, allowing two hits, with no walks and one strikeout and Kaden Segel threw a shutout inning in the eighth for Portland with a strikeout.
At the plate, the Pilots notched three hits on the day, with Brady Bean, JT Landwehr and Aaron Louis all recording hits. It's the first hit of Louis's career.
How it Happened
The lone score of the game came in the bottom of the second, with the Pilots giving up an unearned run off an error at first base. The Pilots went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position, dropping the opener.
