PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland women's tennis team defeated crosstown rival Portland State 5-2 Friday in the team's 2025 home opener at Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 1-3 overall, while the Vikings drop to 1-2.

Portland opened the scoring with a dominating effort in doubles action by taking all three matches. The No. 1 tandem of Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez cruised to a 6-2 win. No. 2 doubles duo of Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and freshman Lexie Flores were 6-1 winners and then Meagan Pearson and Kylie Canubida completed the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3.

The Vikings evened the team score with a win by Nika Beukers at the top of the singles lineup. Portland responded by winning the next four matches to put the contest to bed.

Rubio Perez was a 7-5, 6-1 winner against Nene Uemura at No. 2 singles and then Dimitrijevic pulled off a 6-7, 6-4, 6-2 comeback versus Hana Abdelhamid at No. 3. Freshman Maria Galatescu delivered the clinching point with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Kasumi Hirayama at No. 5 and then Nadine Arbaizer Martinez won a 6-4, 6-7, 10-2 super tiebreaker over Scarlett Perkins at No. 4.

Portland State concluded the scoring with a point from Ayra Salim at No. 6.
