RIVERSIDE, Calif. -- Brady Bean collected three hits, but the Portland Pilots fell to the California Baptist Lancers 18-4 Monday. The win gave the Lancers the series.
Freshman Trey Swygart (0-1) got the ball to start for Portland (1-3) and took the loss. Five pitchers made appearances in total for Portland, with Swygart, Cole Katayama-Stall and Aaron Louis all making their pitching debuts.
In addition to his three hits, Bean had a home run and three RBI's to lead the Pilots. Jonas Salk compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Junior Tyler Howard also helped out for Portland, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk.
How it Happened
The Pilots got on the board immediately, starting the scoring with two runs in the top of the first inning. Portland plated two runs when Bean left the yard with Cody Nitowitz aboard.
The Lancers then rallied to score 13 runs across the third and fourth innings to take a 13-2 lead before the Pilots got back on the board in the seventh. Bean's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Portland scored twice, with the other score coming off a groundout. The Lancers added five more runs before the end of the game to put the score at its final.
