LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Portland dropped a 4-1 decision to LMU Saturday in WCC women's tennis action at the LMU Tennis Center. The Pilots (5-7, 0-2 WCC) were making a comeback run before the Lions (3-8, 1-0) held on for the victory.

LMU took care of doubles with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Portland's No. 1 tandem of Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez were leading 5-4 when the point was clinched.

Singles was a battle at nearly every position. Pilot freshman Maria Galatescu evened the score with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Martina Bovio at No. 6.

The Lions responded with a pair of tough wins at the top of the lineup to move ahead 3-1. The final three singles matches were seesaw affairs that could have gone either way.

LMU was able to clinch with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 win by Kim-Michaela Zahraj over Nadine Arbaizar Martinez. Pilot freshman Isabella Marquart was up a set and in a second set tiebreaker at No. 4 and Aleksandra Dimitrijevic was on serve trailing 4-3 in the third set at No. 3 when the match was clinched.

The Pilots will conclude their WCC-opening road trip at No. 19 Pepperdine on Sunday at noon.
