SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Portland women's tennis grabbed an early lead and battled throughout, but No. 75 Sacramento State Hornets pulled out a 5-2 win Thursday. The Pilots had a five-match win streak snapped and fall to 5-4, while the Hornets improve to 8-2.

Portland played its best doubles of the season in securing the opening point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The reigning WCC Doubles Team of the Week, Sally Pethybridge and Alaia Rubio Perez, continued their stellar play with a 6-3 win over Weronika Ejsmont and Palina Saulevich. The Pilot No. 2 tandem of Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez then clinched with a 6-3 win versus Maddy Ferreros and Irene Riva.

Rubio Perez then doubled Portland's margin with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Catherine Walker at No. 2 singles.

Sacramento State then gained control at the bottom of the lineup with straight set wins at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, to tie the overall team score. Ferreros then outlasted Pethybridge 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 at the top of the lineup to give the Hornets at 3-2 lead.

Lou Baudouin provided the clinching point for Sacramento State with a 7-5, 7-6 win over Dimitrijevic at No. 3 and then Emilija Pranyte closed the scoring with a 7-6, 7-5 defeat of Isabella Marquart at No. 4.

The Pilots remain in Northern California and will visit the UC Davis Aggies on Saturday at 11 a.m.
