PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland cruised to a 7-0 sweep of the Seattle U Redhawks in men's tennis action Sunday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 5-4, while the Redhawks fall to 1-5 this season.

Portland controlled the match from start-to-finish and set the tone with a comfortable win in doubles. The No. 1 tandem of Maxim Groysman and Stefan Skobelev defeated Filip Stipic and Jun Sasagawa 6-3 and then Portland's No. 2 team of Cade Fernando and Nikola Keremedchiev clinched with a 6-4 decision over Yuan Lu and Yu Han Hsieh. The No. 3 Pilot duo of Tom Garcia and Tannor Binder were leading 5-3 when the match was abandoned.

The first wave of singles was all Portland needed to clinch the team victory. Skobelev defeated Sasagawa 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 to put the Pilots up 2-0. Keremedchiev beat Veselin Kiselkov 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 and then Groysman clinched the team victory 6-2, 6-4 against Stipic at No. 1.

Tom Garcia was a 6-3, 6-0 winner against Yuan Lu at No. 4 and Portland won in three set super tiebreakers at No. 5 and No. 6. Cade Fernando beat Michael Frank 6-3, 1-6, 10-5 and Tannor Binder capped the scoring with a 6-7, 7-6, 10-4 marathon against Dario Ristovksi.

"We had a very good week of practice," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "Seattle has a very senior laden team and I was expecting a pretty good challenge today, but I think we played well and they struggled a bit. It was great to see Cade and Tannor have to figure it out in close matches and our doubles is improving. We are pretty much nonstop from this point on through April. I'm hoping the guys are really embracing the opportunities to have some battles coming up soon."

The Pilots return to the courts on Saturday, March 15 to host Portland State at 10 a.m. at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
