PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland fell at home to another nationally-ranked team as the Pepperdine Waves completed a 4-0 sweep of the Pilots on Sunday at Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
The Pilots (7-9, 1-5 WCC) dropped the doubles point as the Waves (14-8, 4-1) won 6-3 at No. 1 and 6-2 at No. 3 doubles.
The first set of singles matches also went to Pepperdine as No. 19 Edward Winter took a 6-1, 6-2 decision at the top of the order versus Maxim Groysman. Aleksa Pisaric then outlasted Stefan Skobelev at No. 3 by a 6-3, 7-6 margin. Lasse Poertner provided the clinching point with a 6-3, 7-6 win against Nikola Keremedchiev at the No. 2 position.
Pilot freshman Lucas Kimelman and sophomore Cade Fernando each took the first set of their matches at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, before the match was abandoned.
Portland will conclude the regular season Thursday at home against No. 49 Pacific with an 11 a.m. start.
