HILLSBORO, Ore. -- The Portland Pilots and No. 8 Oregon State Beavers battled late, with Oregon State taking the lead to win 10-6 at Hillsboro Ballpark. Logan Anderson (1-1) came out of the bullpen for Portland (14-19) and took the loss.
The Pilots got six runs on six hits, led by Zach Toglia's 3-for-4 outing with two RBI's. Tyler Howard went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI's and Riley McCarthy and a 2-RBI double as well. Howard extended his on-base streak to 26 games, the longest since 2009 for a Pilot.
How it Happened
The Pilots were trailing 3-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Portland got an RBI single from Toglia, scoring Doyle Kane from second base.
The Pilots deficit grew to 4-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, taking over the lead in the sixth inning. The Portland offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Howard and a two-run double from McCarthy, which brought the score to 5-4 in favor of the Pilots.
Oregon State retook the lead quickly to make it 7-5. The Pilots scored once on an RBI single from Toglia in the seventh inning, but were unable to get any closer, as Oregon State added three runs to their tally on the way to a 10-6 final.
