PORTLAND, Ore. – The first action of the 2025 fall soccer season is here, with the Portland Pilots set to take on the British Columbia Thunderbirds in an exhibition at Merlo Field on Friday, Aug. 8. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. There will be no live stream or live stats for Friday's match.

The Pilots return 16 players from last year's squad, a team that finished 9-5-6 for their fourth straight season winning at least nine games. It's the first time they've had a four-year stretch of at least nine wins a season since between 2010 and 2013. Jilian McBride is the lone Pilot returning to have earned All-WCC honors last season, making the freshman team, while Keeley Dockter represents the Pilots on the All-WCC Preseason team. The Pilots were picked to finish sixth in the WCC.

The Thunderbirds are one of the top teams in Canada, finishing a perfect 21-0 overall on their way to winning a U Sports Women's Soccer National Championship. After winning in 2023 as well, they've become the first U Sports champions to repeat in over a decade. The Thunderbirds last repeated as national champions in 2003. It was the ninth championship in program history, adding to their national record.
