PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots closed out their three-game series against the UConn Huskies with a 5-3 win, earning their third straight series victory. They improve to 10-7 on the year with the win.
The Pilots allowed just three runs on eight hits, with Will Labonte going 5.1 innings with three runs and six hits allowed along with four K's. Aaron Louis officially earned the win, going 3.2 innings with no runs allowed and just two hits. It's the first win of the season for Louis and the first of his career.
Portland had five runs on Sunday, with seven different batters recording a hit. Leo Cote's two RBI's led the way while Cole Katayama-Stall, Trey Swygart and Gage Bruce all racked up RBI's as well. Katayama-Stall and Dakota Chun each extended their hit streaks to four games, the longest currently on the Pilots.
How it Happened
UConn homered in the first inning to take an early lead and then scored again in the fourth to make it 2-0 Huskies. Portland took the lead in the fifth with three runs, with Bruce hitting a sacrifice fly and Cote hitting a two-run single to make it 3-2.
In the sixth inning, an RBI single tied things up at Joe Etzel Field at 3-3. Portland reclaimed the lead in the eighth, scoring on a fielder's choice and a ground out to make it 5-3 Pilots. Louis closed it out on the mound to deliver the win for Portland.
