PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland women's tennis defeated the Montana State Bobcats by a 5-2 margin on Sunday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots have now won four consecutive matches and improve to 5-5, while the Bobcats fall to 4-9 on the season.
Portland's No. 1 doubles team of Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu earned a 6-1 victory, but Montana State won 6-2 at No. 2 and held on in a tiebreaker at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
The Pilots were then dominant in singles action. Rubio Perez set the tone with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Anna Wise at the top of the lineup. Nadine Arbaizar Martinez was then a 6-3, 6-1 winner against Angel Bean at the No. 3 spot and Dariya Radulova closed out the first wave of singles with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-0 win over Nia Gelashvili.
Galatescu provided the match-clinching point with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Terezie Stverakova at No. 4. The Bobcats picked up their second point at No. 5 singles before Meagan Pearson closed out the scoring for the Pilots with a straight sets win against Kavya Khirwar at No. 6.
The Pilots will next open West Coast Conference play by hosting the Santa Clara Broncos on Saturday and the San Diego Toreros on Sunday, both with 10 a.m. first serves.
