PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland women's tennis extended their winning streak to five matches and opened West Coast Conference play with a 5-2 win over Santa Clara Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 6-5 overall, while the Broncos drop to 3-10 on the season.
Meagan Pearson provided the match-clinching point at No. 6 singles to put the Pilots over the top.
Portland took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Nadine Arbaizar Martinez and Meagan Pearson cruised to a 6-2 win at No. 3 and then Alaia Rubio Perez and Maria Galatescu clinched with a 6-2 victory at the top spot.
Dariya Radulova doubled Portland's lead with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Santa Clara pulled one back with a win at the top of the singles lineup, but Arbaizar Martinez made it 3-1 with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win against TianYu Dong at the No. 3 position.
The Broncos stormed back with wins at No. 5 and No. 4 singles, setting up No. 6 as the match-decider.
Pearson took the first set in a tiebreaker and then came from behind to win the second set 6-4 against Juliette Krumholz to earn the team win.
The Pilots conclude the week by hosting the No. 45 San Diego Toreros on Sunday at 10 a.m.
