LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Alaia Rubio Perez picked up a win in singles but the Portland Pilots dropped a 6-1 decision to the LMU Lions Saturday at the LMU Tennis Center. The Pilots fall to 6-7 overall and 1-2 in West Coast Conference play, while the Lions improve 7-8 and 2-2 in league.
The Lions picked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. Portland's No. 2 tandem of Dariya Radulova and Lexie Flores were leading 4-3 when the point was clinched and match abandoned.
Rubio Perez pulled out a 1-6, 6-1, 11-9 comeback win in a third set super tiebreaker to defeat Lidia Gonzalez at No. 1 singles. Radulova pushed Ada Piestrzynska to a third set at No. 2 but fell 6-4, 1-6, 10-5. LMU won the other four singles matches in straight sets.
