Trey Swygart, Leo Cote and Jonas Salk all recorded multiple hits on the day as well, with each batter going 2-for-3. Cote hit his third home run of the season with a two-run shot in the second inning and Salk hit a late solo bomb for his sixth of the year. Grady Keljo threw an inning for Portland as well allowing a hit and two runs, though both runs counted against Swygart.
How it Happened
Gonzaga started the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. But the Pilots soon took the lead for themselves with a pair of runs coming home on Cote's two-run shot over the left field wall. The Pilots led 2-1 midway through the second.
Gonzaga took over from there, scoring six unanswered from the third through the fifth inning. Portland finally got back on the board with a two-run single from Swygart, making it 7-4 Zags. But Gonzaga scored one more run in the sixth and then four more in the eighth to give themselves some cushion. Portland scored twice in the ninth off the solo shot from Salk and the RBI double from Louis, but still fell 12-6.
