Pilots Drop Monday Matchup to Washington State 9-3

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Portland Pilots dropped their fourth game in as many days with a 9-3 loss to the Washington State Cougars up in Pullman. The loss drops Portland to 20-14 overall.
 
Nolan Miller reached base four times on the day, recording two hits and two walks. Dakota Chun was involved in all three runs scored for the Pilots, batting 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI's and two runs scored. It's his second home run of the season.
 
Aaron Louis took the loss on the mound, going three innings with six runs and seven hits allowed. His record falls to 2-2 on the year. Three other Pilots appeared for Portland, with Morgan Codron also going three innings with three runs and five hits conceded, Ky Hoskinson throwing an inning and Trey Newmann closing it out with an inning thrown in the eighth.
 
How it Happened
 
Washington State started the scoring with four runs in the first inning, eventually scoring seven unanswered through the first four innings. Portland finally got on the board in the fifth inning, with an error by the Cougars allowing Dakota Chun to score, making it 7-1.
 
The Cougars scored on a double by Max Hartman and a single from Ryan Skjonsby to make it 9-1 Cougars in the sixth. Chun hit his two-run bomb in the seventh inning to cut into the lead slightly, but it was too little too late with the Pilots falling 9-3.
 
Game Notes
  • Miller was the only batter to record two hits on the day, going 2-for-2 with two walks.
  • Chun went 1-for-4 with a home run, two RBI's and two runs scored.
  • Chun's homer was the second of his season and second of his career.
  • Aaron Louis took the loss in the start, going three innings with six runs and seven hits allowed. Five of those runs were earned.
