SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Portland Pilots allowed five runs in the seventh inning and fell 6-3 to the Santa Clara Broncos, dropping to 22-17 overall and 8-8 in WCC play.
The Pilots had three runs on five hits, with Brady Bean and Trey Swygart both having RBI hits. Swygart was 1-for-1 with a walk and a hit by pitch. Bean and Jonas Salk had the only extra-base hits for the Pilots, with both players recording doubles in 1-for-3 outings. Cody Nitowitz and Brooks Avery were the only other two Pilots
Will Labonte started for Portland, going six innings and allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five. Morgan Codron threw two innings as well, allowing three runs and three hits. Labonte officially took the loss.
How it Happened
Santa Clara started the scoring with a run in the second off a home run from Waylon Walsh, but the lead didn't hold long. Bean hit his RBI double and Swygart drove in a run on a single in the third to make it 2-1 Pilots.
Portland held that lead until the seventh inning, when the Broncos responded with three runs to take a 6-2 lead. Portland scored once more in the eight on a ground out but fell 6-3.

- Bean and Swygart had the lone RBI hits for the Pilots, with Bean and Salk recording the only extra-base hits as well.
- Bean's RBI puts him in 11th place all-time for the Pilots in the category.
