Bats Struggle for Portland in 3-1 Loss

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Portland Pilots could not get the bats going against the Santa Clara Broncos, dropping the series with a 3-1 loss. The Pilots fall to 22-18 overall and 8-9 in WCC play.
 
Trey Swygart recorded the lone hit for the day against the Broncos, an RBI single in the fourth inning. Trey Newmann took the loss for Portland, going 5.1 innings with three runs and five hits allowed along with three strikeouts. Ky Hoskinson went two innings with no runs and one hit allowed while Alex Via threw two-thirds of an inning.
 
How it Happened
 
Santa Clara scored all their runs early, driving home two in the first inning and another one in the second. Portland got on the scoreboard with an RBI single from Trey Swygart, but that proved to be their only hit of the day, as they fell 3-1.
 
Game Notes
  • Swygart was the only Pilot to record a hit today, an RBI single.
  • Newmann took the loss, going 5.1 innings with three runs and five hits allowed.
  • Hoskinson threw two shutout innings while Via threw another two-thirds of an inning.
