PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Pilots Volleyball won their first regular season match against the Portland State Vikings in five sets at home (25-23, 17-25, 25-27, 25-17, 15-8). Freshman Kala Chock showed an impressive debut with a team-high of 17 kills.

Game Notes

Kala Chock had a team-high of 17 kills, the most by any Pilot freshman since 2022

Portland attackers were helped by a team-high of 48 assists from Havannah Hoeft

Tinoa Woodward-Hart recorded a team-high of 23 digs.

Taina Kaauwai and Jeryn Hildenbrand tied for a team high of two service aces.

How It Happened

SET 1 | Hoeft had 14 of 48 assists in first set. The Pilots gained a lead as big as six points, but the Vikings closed the gap to make it an even contest towards the end. Despite that, Portland took the first set 25-23.

SET 2 | Portland stayed within three points of Portland State until their first timeout. Portland State pulled away, building their lead to eight and felling the Pilots in the second set 25-17.

SET 3 | Lansing and Kaauwai both put down five kills each to keep the attack strong. Portland held their own in a tight set but fell 27-25.

SET 4 | Pilots dominated the fourth set 25-17. Chock recorded six kills, Hildenbrand had both of her service aces and the Pilots held control to take the match into a deciding set.

SET 5 | Pilots finished final set in victory 15-8. Pilots locked in 10 kills in last set as they cruised to victory.
