PORTLAND, Ore. - Havannah Hoeft and Taina Kaauwai were named to the 2026 Portland Invite All-Tournament Team and Kala Chock was named to the All- Tournament Team and received Most Valuable Player.
Chock made a splash in the first two regular season matches this weekend as a freshman. Chock put down a total of 30 kills in the Portland Invite -- including 17 in the match against Portland State – and currently leads her team in kills. This was a match high across both teams in kills for Chock and the most by any Pilot freshman in a match since 2022. She had 19 total digs as well.
Setter Hoeft had a total of 79 assists this weekend, setting up her team for a team hitting percentage of .323. Hoeft recorded a total of 25 digs, with 13 digs in the Nevada match. This was only one dig short from her game high against San Diego in 2024. She had nine kills, four blocks and one service ace as well.
Kaauwai excelled at the Portland Invite with 22 kills, two service aces and eight total blocks. Kaauwai currently leads her team in blocks, is second in kills and third in service aces. Kaauwai had an impressive hitting percentage this weekend of .514.
The Portland Pilots had a strong opening this weekend, defeating the Portland State Vikings and sweeping the Wolf Pack. The Pilots beat Portland State in five sets (25-23, 17-25, 25-27, 25-17, 15-8) and continued their streak with a win over Nevada where they defeated the Wolf Pack in a three-set sweep (25-23, 25-18, 25-18). The Pilots will hit the road to face the San Jose Spartans on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. in the Spartan Gym. For more coverage and info, visit PortlandPilots.com.
