SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Portland Pilot outside hitter Kala Chock is named the WCC Freshman of the Week. She is the first Freshman of the Week winner for volleyball this year.
Chock made a statement in her first week, putting down a total of 30 kills in her first two games, making her 14th in WCC in kills and tied for fifth in kills per set. She ranks first among freshman in kills in the WCC. She had 17 kills in the match against Portland State, a match high across both teams and the most by any Pilot Freshman in four years. She notched a double-double in the Portland State match with her 17 kills and 12 digs. Over both games this week, Chock accumulated 19 digs and three blocks. The freshman currently leads her team in kills and is third in digs.
The Pilots are off to a strong start in the 2026 season with a 2-0 record. They had their first win over Portland State in five sets (25-23, 17-25, 25-27, 25-17, 15-8) and their second over Nevada, sweeping the Wolf Pack in three sets (25-23, 25-18, 25-18). The Pilots will hit the road this week for the San Jose State Invite and take on the San Jose State Spartans on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. Then they will play the UC Riverside Highlanders in a neutral site match on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2 p.m. in San Jose.
