PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Women's Soccer improved to 2-0 at home, earning a 1-0 victory over the Oregon State Beavers. The win puts the Pilots at 3-5-0 on the year.
Ruby Settle scored her first goal of the season in the contest, the eventual game-winner. Tayvi Khann had the assist on the play. Portland posted their third shutout of the year – their second in a row – and Sophia Hills collected two saves. Portland has gone unbeaten in their last four contests now against the Beavers
How it Happened
Portland controlled the action throughout the game, posting eight shots. The Pilots shut down the Beaver offense, but couldn't quite break through, heading into the half tied at zero.
The breakthrough came in the 65
th minute. Khann took the corner kick and sailed it into the box to a rising Settle. Settle launched the header, with the ball ricocheting into the back of the net for the score. The goal proved to be enough, as the Pilots won 1-0.
Game Notes
- Settle's goal was her first of the season and fifth of her career. She's the fifth Pilot to score this year.
- Khann's assist was her second of the year. She's the first Pilot to have multiple assists this season.
- This is the second straight shutout for Portland and third overall this year.
- Hills collected two saves in the contest.
- Portland outshot the Beavers 18-5 and put nine goals on target. The Pilots have posted more shots than their last four opponents.
- Portland is 2-0 to open the year at home.
