LONG BEACH, Calif. – Portland Pilots Women's Soccer dropped their contest against Long Beach State 2-1 in Long Beach. The loss puts Portland at 1-4-0 on the year.
Hailey Bagby scored the lone goal for the Pilots, her first of the season and eighth of her career. Rose Calkins had the assist. Portland outshot the Beach 12-5 on the night, put five shots on frame and had three corner kicks to Long Beach State's two. Sophia hills had one save in goal.
How it Happened
Long beach scored quickly, pushing a dribbling shot into the back of the net in the second minute. Portland methodically turned the game on its head, with the Pilots dominating the next 30 minutes.
Their play resulted in a 33
rd minute goal from Bagby. Rose Calkins worked her way into the box from the right sideline and crossed it to a cutting Bagby. The senior guided the ball in for the score,
her first of the year. The tie stayed through the rest of the half.
Not long into the second half, Long Beach scored again, giving themselves a 2-1 lead. Portland put a shot on goal late in the 88th minute, but couldn't find the equalizer.
