STOCKTON, Calif. – Senior Michail Pervolarakis and junior Carlos Donat both advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Northwest Regionals with wins on Friday at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center. Senior Pierre Garcia and freshman Tom Hann opened the day with a pair of doubles wins and moved to the doubles Round of 16 as the Pilots continued their strong run at the event.

The Portland duo posted comfortable 8-3 wins over teams from Washington and Seattle, respectively, to set the tone for the day. They advance to face the No. 7 seeded duo of Dominic and Paul Barretto of Cal on Saturday.

"Tom and Pierre started the day off really well for us getting a couple of doubles wins, including a nice one over Washington," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "They have played well together this fall and seem to complement each other in doubles."

Donat, making his fall debut after battling injuries, defeated Santa Clara's Kamran Khan 6-4, 7-5 for his third win of the tournament and will take on No. 5 seed Jack Malloy of Cal on Saturday.

Pervolarakis, the No. 2 seed of the tourney and ranked No. 95 nationally, then pulled out his second consecutive comeback win. After defeating Cal's Jackson Suh on Thursday, he battled back against seeded Ruadhan O'Sullivan of Gonzaga for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 on Friday afternoon. He advances to face Stanford's Timothy Sah, the No. 14 seed of the tournament.

Senior Mathieu Garcia dropped a three-set Round of 32 grinder to No. 11 seed Johan Jonhagen of San Francisco by a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 margin.

"Carlos just continues to battle even though he is not at his best yet," Gross said. "It is impressive that he has gotten through three tough matches in his first tournament in more than four months. And Mike shows what an experienced and composed competitor he has become by once again battling back after losing the first set. Mathieu struggled with some stomach issues otherwise I think we would have had three players in the Round of 16."

Action continues on Saturday with both main draw and consolation singles and doubles. The tournament will run through the weekend and conclude on Monday.

Last year, the Pilots also had a strong performance at ITA Regionals with four players reaching the Round of 32. Portland joined Cal as the only two programs with multiple quarterfinalists as Mathieu Garcia reached the quarters and Pervolarakis was a semifinalist.
