Printable "Dig for the Cure" Donation Form
PORTLAND, Ore. --- On Thursday Oct. 30, volleyball fans can help the Portland Pilots “Dig for the Cure” by making donations to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. During Portland’s West Coast Conference match against the San Diego Toreros, fans can pledge money per dig by the Pilots or make a flat donation.
The Pilots and Toreros are scheduled to play at 7:00 p.m. at the Chiles Center. Portland will be wearing pink warm-ups and fans are encouraged to wear pink as well.
A raffle to win Pilots gear will take place, and limited edition Pilot t-shirts will also be available for a donation, with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
All eight WCC schools are participating in the “Dig for the Cure” program during October, which is breast cancer awareness month. The WCC is joined by over 159 high school and collegiate programs who have designated a home volleyball match in support of the cause.
The Dig for the Cure campaign was originally started in 2003 by Charlotte Head Coach Lisa Marston, and has spread to numerous other volleyball programs across the country since.
The Susan G. Komen for the Cure was established in 1982 by Nancy Brinker to honor the memory of her sister, Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at the age of 36. Today, the Foundation is an international organization with a network of more than 75,000 volunteers working through local affiliates and events like the Komen Race for the Cure® to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease. A global leader in the fight against breast cancer, the Foundation fulfills its mission through support of innovative breast cancer research grants, meritorious awards and educational, scientific and community outreach programs around the world. Together with its Affiliate Network, corporate partners and generous donors, the Komen for the Cure has invested $1 billion in the fight against breast cancer.
