PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots Volleyball announced their 2026 fall schedule on Friday, featuring a pair of early-season tournaments and a tough West Coast Conference slate. This year's WCC lineup includes conference newcomer, the Denver Pioneers, and second-year member Seattle U Redhawks.
Portland begins preseason play with a pair of exhibition matches against the Oregon State Beavers in Corvallis on Aug. 12 and at home against the Western Washington Vikings on Aug.18. The Beavers finished last year with a 19-9 record and impressive 10-3 mark at home. WWU went 19-7 and has been to the NCAA Tournament 16 times since 2000.
The regular season opens at home with back-to-back matches against the rival Portland State Vikings -- 11-17 in 2025 -- and Nevada Wolfpack -- 8-20 in 2025 -- on Aug. 28 and 29 respectively. The Pilots and Vikings haven't squared off on the hardwood since the 2022 season where Portland came out on top in four sets. Against the Wolfpack, the Pilots are 8-5 all-time and will look to improve that record to round out August.
The next contest comes with the Montana State Tournament from Sept. 11-12. The Pilots will square off against the North Dakota State Bison, who went 17-11 in 2025 and host the Montana State Bobcats, who finished 13-15 in 2025. When Portland and NDSU square off, it will be the first time these programs have ever faced each other. Meanwhile the Bobcats are a familiar foe for Portland as the teams are 4-4 against each other all-time.
The Eastern Washington Tournament is next on the docket as the Pilots take on CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners, the Nevada Wolfpack, and the Eastern Washington Eagles from Sept. 17-19. Following the tournament, the Pilots begin the WCC portion of the schedule starting on Sept. 26 at Seattle U against the Redhawks. The Redhawks finished 8-21 in 2025. Last year, the Pilots swept the Redhawks in both contests during Seattle U's first year in the WCC.
The conference schedule ramps up as the calendar flips to October. The Pilots' first home conference matchup comes against the Santa Clara Broncos, who went 17-12 in 2025 on Oct. 1. The lone battle between these programs went the distance, as Santa Clara took the fifth set 15-13.
The Pilots then host the San Francisco Dons (7-21 in 2025) on Oct. 3 following one matchup in 2025 that saw the Pilots sweep the Dons. These programs are 5-5 in their last 10 contests against each other.
Next, the Pilots hit the road on Oct. 8 and 10 against the Pacific Tigers and Saint Mary's Gaels. The Pilots took six straight sets against the Tigers, who went 8-21 in 2025, outscoring them by a combined 24 points in two games last year. The Gaels -- 11-18 in 2025 -- and Pilots were incredibly competitive against each other, splitting the season series with both games needing five sets to determine the winners. Portland took the first matchup at home before Saint Mary's took the second match later that year.
Portland kicks off a long home stand by hosting Denver on Oct. 15 for the first conference matchup between the programs. During its final season in the Summit League, the Pioneers went 17-11 last year.
The San Diego Toreros (Oct. 17), Seattle U (Oct. 24), the Loyola Marymount Lions (Oct. 29) and the Pepperdine Waves (Oct. 31) all make their way to the Chiles Center for more WCC action. San Diego went 25-5 overall and 18-0 in conference play last year. The Toreros lost just one game at home all year, won their 13th WCC title and made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 8 seed before falling just short against Kansas State in the first round.
Portland and LMU split their bouts with a rare sweep by both sides as both programs successfully defended their hardwood. The win against the Lions for the Pilots was the first since 2010. Pepperdine finished the year 21-8 overall, and 15-3 against WCC opponents and 10-1 on home floor.
The Pilots are back on the road to begin November against San Francisco (Nov. 5) and Santa Clara (Nov. 7) before returning to The Bluff for rematches against Saint Mary's (Nov. 12) and Pacific (Nov. 14).
To end the conference schedule, the Pilots face a long four city road trip. Second scuffles include San Diego (Nov. 19) and Denver (Nov. 21) before rounding out the year in California. The end of the schedule has encounters with Pepperdine (Nov. 25) and LMU (Nov. 28) as well.
