St. Petersburg Open Bracket
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia --- Former University of Portland men’s tennis standout Travis Parrott teamed with partner Filip Polasek to claim the St. Petersburg Open doubles title last weekend. It is the third career professional doubles title for Parrott, who concluded his collegiate tennis career as an All-American for the Pilots in 2002.
Parrott/Polasek came from behind to defeat Rohan Bopanna and Max Mirnyi 3-6, 7-6(4), 10-8 in the title match. The duo was also pushed to three sets in the semifinals before knocking off Michail Elgin and Alexandre Kudryavtsev 7-5, 4-6, 10-6.
The doubles title is the first of the 2008 season for Parrott, who has posted a 17-12 record this year. His previous career titles came in 2007 (Indianapolis) and 2003 (Los Angles).
The win also vaulted him to No. 46 in the Stanford ATP Doubles Rankings, his highest mark since June of 2006. Parrott’s highest ever doubles ranking was No. 38 in the summer of 2005.
Parrott holds the University of Portland single-season records for wins when he posted a 39-9 record in 2002 en route to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships. Parrott transferred to Portland for his senior season after spending his first three years at the University of Georgia. As a member of the Bulldogs, he won the NCAA team national championship as well as the doubles championship with partner Matias Boeker in 2001. A Portland native, Parrott decided to play his senior year for his junior tennis coach, current Pilots head coach, Aaron Gross.
