PORTLAND, Ore. --- The University of Portland Pilots have inked Monica Jordan (Grants Pass, Ore.), a Grants Pass High School setter, to a National Letter of Intent, volleyball head coach Joe Houck announced on Monday. Jordan (5-10) recently landed a spot on the A2 USA Junior National Team which competed in the USA High Performance Tournament this past summer.
“Monica is a recruit I first met at a volleyball clinic at Western Oregon University several years ago, and even as a Frosh I knew this was a special player, and an even more special person,” said head coach Joe Houck. “Her experience this past summer with the Junior National program has solidified our expectations of Monica as one of the most complete setters available in this class. Monica is one of those players that makes the entire game better with her presence, as she displays a complete commitment to her team and to the game. She has an electricity about her on the court that surrounds her game and will energize the Pilot lights to brighter things to come!”
As a Lady Cavers, Jordan was an All-Southwest Conference First Team selection in both her junior and sophomore seasons. She was selected for the school’s Outstanding Athlete Award as junior.
Jordan began her club career at the Southern Oregon Volleyball Club (2006/07/08) before joining mOcean Volleyball Club last year. Most recently, she helped her team take first place in the 2009 President’s Day Tournament in San Jose, Calif.
“I still can’t believe how fortunate I am to have this opportunity,” said Jordan. “I’m beyond excited to arrive at the University of Portland. I could not be happier.”
Jordan is one of three high school volleyball players that have committed to join the University of Portland program next fall.
