PORTLAND, Ore. --- In what is quickly becoming a season of milestones for the University of Portland baseball team, the Pilots are now ranked for what’s believed to be the first time since 1980. Portland, which is 27-9 overall and 11-1 in the West Coast Conference, is ranked No. 26 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll.
The Pilots are riding a seven-game winning streak and are coming off a three-game series sweep at Pepperdine, where UP was previously 1-31. Portland has compiled the most wins in a season since 1991 and the most conference wins since 2002, when the Pilots won 16 during a 30-game league slate.
Portland, which is also receiving 14 votes in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches’ Poll, last made an appearance in the national rankings when the Pilots checked in at No. 30 in Collegiate Baseball’s final poll in 1980.
UP is on the road this week with three games in Bellevue, Wash. On Friday, the Pilots are set to face the Seattle Redhawks at 3:00 p.m. Portland will then play the BYU Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday before taking on the Redhawks once again at 2:00 p.m. that afternoon.
