PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Pilots baseball was one of almost 500 college programs to earn the 2025-26 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack. The Pilots have earned the award each season since head coach Geoff Loomis took over in 2016.
The award recognizes high school and college teams that posted a GPA of 3.00 or better for the 2025-26 academic year. All nominated teams must be a high school or college team where their head coach is a current member of ABCA.
The Pilot baseball team collectively recorded better than a 3.55 combined team grade-point average in the 2025-26 academic year and more than 90 percent of the team has an individual cumulative GPA above 3.0.
This year Portland had three student-athletes make the College Sports Communicators All-Acedemic Team including Carter Gaston, Cole Katayama-Stall and Jonas Salk. Those three qualified by posting at least a 3.5 GPA while participating in at least 90% of an institution's games or starting in at least 66% of a team's contests.This was Gaston's third CSC All-Acedemic award, the most by any Pilot in the program's history.

The Pilots finished the 2026 season at 27-25 overall, marking the fourth time in five seasons they've finished above .500 and that they've posted at least 25 wins or more.
