LARAMIE, Wyo. --- Freshman Monica Jordan recorded a double-double en route to setting career-highs in assists, digs, and kills to lead the Pilots to a 3-1 victory (14-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-22) over the UT Arlington Mavericks Saturday evening. Sophomores Kate Bostwick and Ariel Usher posted double-digit kills as the Pilots concluded play at the UniWyo Sports Complex in Laramie, Wyo.
Portland (5-5) rebounded from a first set loss with the help of Bostwick, Jordan, and Usher to defeat the Mavericks (3-8). Jordan, coming off of the bench, dished out 33 assists and five kills to compliment her 17 digs. All three totals represent career-highs for the freshman setter from Grants Pass, Ore. Bostwick hit 0.258 on the match and tied a season-high with 12 kills.
Bostwick, Jordan, and Usher each recorded four kills in the pivotal second set as the Pilots received two critical block assists from Usher and junior Marissa Plummer to string together a five point run for the Pilots. Plummer finished the evening with ten kills and five blocks while Usher posted a game-high 16 kills with five blocks.
It was much of the same for the Pilots in the third and fourth sets as Jordan fed Pilot attackers and the Pilot defense thwarted Maverick attempts. Portland finished with a season-high eight blocks.
Portland held a slight advantage in assists (43-39) and digs (50-42) as the Mavericks outhit the Pilots 0.223 to 0.154, finishing with a 50-49 kill advantage.
The Pilots return to Oregon this week to play a non-conference road match against the Oregon Ducks on Wednesday, September 15. Portland then heads to the Aggie Invitational next weekend to play the Nevada Wolfpack (Friday 4:30 PM), Cal Poly (Saturday 2 PM), and UC Davis (Saturday 7 PM).
