EUGENE, Ore. --- Sophomore Kate Bostwick posted seven kills and 11 digs as the Portland Pilots lost to the No. 16 Oregon Ducks (27-25, 25-15, 25-13) Wednesday evening at McArthur Court in Eugene, Ore.
The Pilots (5-6) and Ducks (9-0) traded points with each other in a close first set. With 16 ties and nine lead changes, neither team allowed the other to pull away. Portland recorded three blocks and hit 0.241 but a few close plays late in the set went in favor of the Ducks.
In the second set, the Ducks regained their hot-hitting hands, siding-out 15 of 16 times while hitting .400 while simultaneously minimizing their errors to pull away with the set early.
Katherine Fischer led the Ducks in the second and third sets, finishing with 15 kills and 14 digs. Heather Meyers added 12 kills for Oregon.
Sophomore Ariel Usher recorded seven kills for the Pilots while senior Danielle Dupar returned to action with 15 digs. Sophomore Rachel Femling posted two kills and four blocks for the Pilots, giving Portland a 5-4 advantage in blocks.
Up next for Portland is the Aggie Invitational in Davis, Calif. The Pilots open tournament play on Friday at 4:30 PM against Nevada. Portland then plays a double-header on Saturday, first playing Cal Poly at 2 PM before playing the hosts, UC Davis, at 7 PM.
