Addie Webster Joins UP Volleyball as a Volunteer Assistant Coach
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland Pilots volleyball head coach Joe Houck announced the addition of Addie Webster to his coaching staff on Friday. Webster, the 2005 Big Sky Freshman of the Year while with Eastern Washington, joins the program in a volunteer role.
“Addie has a background working with coach King and myself so she has been ‘indoctrinated’ to our philosophical and systems approach to coaching and training,” Houck commented. “She is able to come in with a certain comfort level and will be able to hit the ground running with our spring workouts.”
Webster expressed her excitement on joining the program, “Portland is a fantastic university both academically and athletically and I am looking forward to working here because there is so much for me to learn from the coaches.”
Born in Portland, Webster played high school volleyball for Jesuit before playing two years with Eastern Washington, then transferring to San Francisco before the 2007 season. A four-year starter between the two programs, she was twice elected team captain. In her senior season, she helped the Dons post a 22-8 record and advance to the 2008 NCAA Tournament. Webster finished her career with 1,168 kills (669 kills at EWU, 499 kills at USF) prior to joining VC Tirol as a starter in Innsbruck, Austria.
Houck added, “Her background as an outside hitter and specifically her work with the academic side of the student athlete experience at Seattle will also help our student athletes off the court and in the classroom.”
Webster joins the Pilots after beginning her coaching career with a brief volunteering stint for Seattle University. Aside from assisting in the development of players on the court, she focused heavily on helping the players with their academics.
In addition to her role as a volunteer assistant for the Redhawks, Webster was the Athletic Academic Coordinator Intern for the entire athletic department, organizing study halls and matching student-athletes with tutors.
“UP is an up and coming program and that is something I cannot wait to be a part of,” Webster added. “I played at the Chiles Center in high school and in college, and it is cool to finally call it home."
“She has a wealth of experience including her professional playing career and contacts, and we are hopeful this is the beginning of a long association with our program and the University of Portland,” Houck concluded.
