Dons Overcome Pilots in WCC Match-Up
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Freshman setter Lexi Dempsey recorded three service aces for the second match in a row, leading the Portland Pilots with 17 assists and six digs, but the San Francisco Dons escaped the Chiles Center with a 3-0 West Coast Conference victory over Portland (25-21, 25-23, 25-19).
The Pilots will enter next week’s match at BYU in search of their first conference victory of the season as Portland is now 0-6 in the WCC with a 6-14 overall mark.
San Francisco improves 12-6 overall and 3-2 in the WCC behind Ester De Vries nine kills and six service aces.
In her first season on The Bluff, Dempsey is settling nicely into the Pilots offensive scheme. Before picking up another three aces today, Dempsey was tied for sixth in the WCC with seven aces. She is also now averaging 3.70 assists per set while splitting setting duties with junior Monica Jordan.
Portland plays just one match next week, a 6 p.m. (PST) affair at BYU in Provo, Utah.
