Pilots Tamed by Lions in Road Match
LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- Senior outside hitter Kate Bostwick and sophomore middle blocker Bea Loper each hit over .300 to lead the Portland attack, but the Loyola Marymount Lions handed the Pilots a 3-0 loss Thursday night at the Gersten Pavilion. The scores were 25-22, 25-20, and 25-14.
Bostwick’s third kill in the first set brought the Pilots (6-20, 0-12 WCC) within one. LMU (15-10, 6-6 WCC) took the next point before Portland forced a pair of errors to tie the set at 17-17.
Loper provided a pair of kills in each set along with two blocks on the night, but the Lions managed to contain the rest of Portland’s offense for the most part.
Freshman setter Lexi Dempsey notched three services aces in a match for the fourth time this season. The native of Palm Springs, Calif., now ranks 11th in aces amongst West Coast Conference players with 22 on the season. In conference play, Dempsey has tallied 14 aces while averaging 0.35 per set, ranking her fifth for conference-only matches.
Portland’s final California match of the season will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Pilots playing the Santa Clara Broncos.
