What’s good Pilot Fans
Well we all know what time of year it is, but just in case you are not aware, it’s volleyball season! But I am sure you already knew that on account of you reading this blog right this very second. Few things are more exciting than the end of August, which brings the greatness of school starting, new roommates but most of all, the first games of preseason. But don’t you worry, we have been hard at work for a while now. Due to the fact that this is the very first blog of the season, I will introduce all of you to our newbies! Beth Carey, Lexi Dempsey and Sarah O’Connor.
Beth is a junior transfer Middle Hitter coming to us all the way from Adelaide, Australia. She attended College of Southern Idaho for two extremely successful years and most recently played for the Australian National Team. When Beth came on her visit I thought she was nice, kind of quiet, but an overall very calm person. Now I have come to realize she is one of the funniest people I have ever met. Beth is literally hilarious, with the combination of her sarcasm, wit and being from a different country, it is difficult to tell when she is serious and when she isn’t. Beth also loves “walkabouts”. This is when she walks long distances, just to walk. Yeah, it was a rather foreign concept to me as well. In the middle of a double day during preseason in the heat of midday, you can find Beth just leisurely walking around. However, on the court, she is a burst of energy. She is amazing to play with, and will do great things for us here on The Bluff.
Lexi Dempsey is a freshman setter traveling all the way from Palm Springs, California, and
boy can you tell. Lexi played for one of the top clubs in her area, 951 Elite, and Palm Springs High School. Lexi is a classic Cali girl. Where she comes from, it is never below 70 degrees, ever. It is truly the desert out there. This weekend she purchased her first raincoat…. Ever. We were all very proud of her and we know she will put it to good use here on The Bluff. Lexi is especially fond of cats.
Rounding out the extensive freshmen class is outside hitter Sarah O’Connor. Sarah is a Pacific Northwest native, coming from Seattle, Washington. Sarah played for Washington Volleyball Academy, one of the premier clubs of the Northwest. I have actually known Sarah
since her freshman year of high school, having met at a volleyball camp, when she had braces and I had hair, very long time ago. Sarah is full of energy on and off the court, there is never a dull or quiet moment with her. Some fun facts about Sarah are that she was born nearly completely deaf, blind and with red hair. She also knows American Sign Language and was an avid member of the Irish Heritage Club at her high school, Roosevelt High School.
Well, those are the newcomers to the crew. We are happy to have them and can’t wait to hit the floor this weekend at Utah State!
Stay swag pilot fans
