Box Score No. 20 BYU Defeats Pilots to Maintain Perfect WCC Record

PORTLAND, Ore. --- The No. 20-ranked Brigham Young Cougars improved to 8-0 in West Coast Conference action after defeating the host Portland Pilots in straight sets Thursday night at the Chiles Center. The Cougars won by scores of 25-16, 25-16 and 25-18.
Senior outside hitter Autumn Wedan led the Pilots (0-17, 0-8 WCC) with a match-high 13 kills, while sophomore Emily Liger added eight kills.
The Cougars (15-3, 8-0) were paced by Tambry Haddock with 10 kills, while Kathryn LeCheminant and Alexa Gray added nine and eight kills, respectively.
BYU took the first game after hitting .462 with 12 kills and zero attack errors. The Cougars raced to a 10-5 lead in the game and would extend the lead as Portland hit .250 in the set while committing five service errors.
It was more BYU in the second game as the Cougars took an early 5-1 lead and would push the margin to as much as 10 late in the game. The Pilots hit .192 in the game compared to .281 for BYU.
The Pilots came out of the intermission strong and battled in the third game. It was back-and-forth throughout the first half of the match and tied at 14-14, but BYU would rattle off a 7-0 run to regain control of the game and finish off the match.
Portland hit .154 on the night and BYU finished at .376. The Cougars also gained an 11.5-4 edge in blocks
The Pilots will return to the Chiles Center on Saturday at 1 p.m. to host the No. 11 San Diego Toreros. San Diego is 14-3 overall and 6-2 in league action after defeating Gonzaga 3-0 on Thursday night.
