PORTLAND, Ore. --- The San Francisco Dons pulled away after splitting the first two sets, earning a 3-1 victory over the Portland Pilots in a West Coast Conference volleyball match on Thursday night at the Chiles Center.

The scores of the match were 33-31, 23-25, 25-21, and 25-22.

The Pilots (0-21, 0-12 WCC) were led by Autumn Wedan, who finished with a match-high 26 kills. Freshman Makayla Lindburg finished with a career-high 19 kills. Monica Jordan finished with 51 assists.

San Francisco junior Anja Segota led the Dons with 16 kills and senior Rebecca Kopilovitch had 22 digs in the Dons' (11-10, 7-4 WCC) winning effort.

The Pilots got out to an early 9-4 lead in the first set before the Dons evened it up at 16. Both teams traded points to drive up the score to 31-31, but a Portland attacking error and a kill from Malina Terrell ultimately gave the Dons the two points needed to close out the first set. The Pilots had six set points, but couldn't put the Dons away.

The Pilots took control for most of the second set, jumping out to a 23-20 lead late. The Dons came back to take the next three points to tie it up at 23, but two huge kills from Emily Liger sealed the second set for the Pilots.

The third set was controlled by San Francisco, highlighted by a 5-0 run that helped the Dons surge ahead to a 15-7 lead. San Francisco would take the third set 25-21 with Anja Segota leading the charge with three kills.

Wedan got Portland off to a fast start in the fourth set, with four kills accounting for the Pilots first four points to take an early 4-1 lead. However, San Francisco would finish off the set to claim the match.

Portland continues their homestand on Saturday, with the Santa Clara Broncos visiting the Pilots in a WCC matchup at 1 p.m. at the Chiles Center.
