Complete 2014 NWSL Draft
PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland seniors Amanda Frisbie and Ellen Parker were both drafted by Seattle Reign FC in the 2014 NWSL Draft, which happened on Friday morning. Frisbie, a defender/forward, was the seventh pick overall, while Parker, a midfielder, was selected at No. 30.
Frisbie and Parker join a Seattle roster that already features Portland alums Stephanie Cox, Danielle Foxhoven, Megan Rapinoe, Elli Reed and Keelin Winters.
"Words cannot describe how excited I am," Frisbie said. "Seattle has a tremendous amount of talent and I'm excited to continue to grow as a player and to help make a difference. Having so many Pilots already on the roster should make the transition easier, and I can't wait to get started."
"I'm just really honored to be a part of Seattle and I'm so excited to be playing with such a talented group of players," Parker said. "It's also exciting to know that there are already a lot of Pilots there because we all play a similar style. I'm so happy that my dreams are coming true."
This season Frisbie was an NSCAA All-America First Team selection, a MAC Hermann Semifinalist and the West Coast Conference Defender of the Year. Frisbie, a native of McKinney, Texas, who made the switch to defense this year after playing forward her entire career, helped the Pilots post nine shutouts on the year and still finished second on the team with eight goals and four game-winners.
Parker, who originally hails from Paradise Valley, Ariz., joined Frisbie on the 2013 All-WCC First Team and she landed on the NSCAA All-West Region First Team. Parker was the WCC's Player of the Week twice this season, and she registered a conference-best seven game-winners. Every goal Parker scored last fall was a game-winner, and she also tallied four assists.
"Being a part of the Portland program has been amazing and I would not be here without the coaches and my teammates," added Parker. "We had an amazing year and it's a big part of why I am where I am."
"Even though I'm excited to head to Seattle, I won't ever forget my teammates and coaches at Portland and all that they've done for me," said Frisbie. "They have truly helped me get to where I want to be and have made me a better player and person. I will also never forget the amazing amount of support from all of the Portland fans and I hope to see some Pilot purple at our games in Seattle."
The Seattle Reign, who are coached by Laura Harvey, are one of nine teams that make up the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), which is in its second season of existence.
North Carolina's Crystal Dunn was the No. 1 overall pick, going to the Washington Spirit.
