Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Pacific Tigers topped the Portland Pilots on Saturday afternoon in the Chiles Center. Freshman Sarah Savoca led Portland (5-14, 0-8 WCC) with six kills, while sophomore Makayla Lindburg recorded 15 digs.
Pacific (16-5, 5-3 WCC) won their fifth WCC match with set scores of 25-18, 25-14, and 25-11.
After staying close to the Tigers through the beginning of the first set, Pacific went on a 6-1 run to take the lead 12-7. With the Tigers continuing to control the momentum of the set, Portland called a time out down seven at 17-10. The Pilots came out of the break to win three straight points on a Pacific error, a kill by Lindburg, and then a service ace by senior Emily Liger to put the score at 17-13. The Tigers held off the Pilots through the rest of the game, winning the set and taking the early match lead 1-0. Savoca led the way for Portland with three kills.
Senior Bea Loper made her first appearance of the season to start the second set and earned her first kill and second point for the Pilots as they went up 2-1. Portland held the lead until Pacific tied the game up 10-10. The Tigers then scored three points in a row to take the 13-10 lead which caused the Pilots to take a time out. Pacific controlled the momentum through the time out and went on a 12-3 run to win the second set and hold a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission. Portland was led by Lindburg who recorded three kills during the game.
Pacific jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third. Freshman Ali Koumelis set up Savoca for a kill that sent the Pilots on a three point run to cut the Tigers lead to one at 6-5. In response, Pacific went on a run of their own expanding the gap between the two teams to seven at 15-8 heading into the media time out. Out of the break, Pacific finished the set and won the match with a 10-3 run. Senior Katie Mardesich led the Pilots defensively with four digs during the game.
The Pilots will be home again next week as they take on the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Saturday, Oct. 25
th at 1 p.m. in the Chiles Center.Â
