LAST WEEK• The Pilots were home for the first time this semester playing a pair of Southern California teams in Loyola Marymount and Pepperdine.
• On Thursday, Portland faced their third ranked opponent in a row in No. 22 LMU. The Pilots played the Lions a tough match, taking the third set and pushing the fourth set to extra points, but LMU escaped with the 3-1 win.
• Portland ended the weekend with a four set match against Pepperdine. The Pilots took the first set convincingly, but the Waves were able to come back and win the match 3-1.
ABOUT THE PILOTS • Portland started out the season strong by winning the Baylor Tournament. Emily Liger was named offensive MVP and Katie Mardesich received defensive MVP honors, while also being named to the All-Tournament team.
• Liger recorded a career high 29 kills in the Pilots Sept. 6 match against San Jose State. This tally puts her at the top of the total kills in four sets WCC ranking. The program record number of kills in a four set match is 32 and was set by Cathy Cook in 1998 against Memphis. Liger currently sits at 21st in the nation in points per set with 4.96 and is also 22nd in the nation in kills per set at 4.32.
