Senior guard Bobby Sharp led the Pilots with 12 points, while Victor Robbins scored a game-high 18 points off the bench for the Beavers.
Portland had the ball with the game tied in overtime at 57-57, but a missed layup and consecutive turnovers sandwiched a Gary Payton II jumper as OSU took the lead. Thomas van der Mars made one-of-two free throws, but another missed shot forced Portland to foul with 30 seconds remaining. Olaf Schaftenaar made both free throws and Sharp missed a contested three-pointer with 23 seconds left. The Beavers made their final four free throws to ice the game.
There were four ties and three lead changes in the final 6:55 of regulation after the Pilots led by as much as seven points early in the half.
A layup by Langston Morris-Walker gave the Beavers a 45-44 lead, their first advantage since leading 12-10 early in the game. Another basket by Morris-Walker gave OSU a three-point lead, but Sharp buried a three-pointer to tie it at 47-47.
Portland senior Riley Barker had a steal and breakaway dunk to put the Pilots on top 49-47 with 4:19 remaining. Gary Payton II tied it, but Barker gave Portland another two-point lead with a pair of free throws with 2:04 left.
Victor Robbins then had back-to-back baskets to put OSU ahead 53-51 with 35 seconds remaining, but Pilot point guard Alec Wintering went coast-to-coast and tied it with a layup seven seconds later. Payton II missed desperation three to push the game to overtime.
Payton II recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Beavers. Morris-Walker added 16 points and Schaftenaar chipped in 14 on the night.
Wintering finished with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Portland struggled offensively and missed a number of open shots. The Pilots finished the game shooting just 27 percent overall and made 5-of-24 three-point attempts. OSU finished at 37 percent overall and 5-for-17 from beyond the arc.
The Pilots had 10 assists and just eight turnovers and outrebounded the Beavers by a 40-39 margin.
Portland will get a full week off before heading to Sacramento State on Sunday, Dec. 14 for a 5 p.m. tip-off. The Pilots will continue to road swing at UNLV on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be aired live on Sports 910 (KMTT) with pregame coverage starting 30 minutes prior to tip-off.
